Dental SEO in 2026 is three jobs at once: win the Google Local Pack, rank organically for procedure + city queries, and get cited by AI search (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude). The good news: 80% of the work overlaps. This checklist is ordered by what moves the needle fastest.

Google Business Profile (highest impact)

  1. Primary category set to "Dentist" (or specific specialty like "Cosmetic dentist", "Pediatric dentist").
  2. Secondary categories filled (3-5 relevant ones - not 20).
  3. NAP (name, address, phone) exactly matches your website footer.
  4. Hours accurate, including holidays. Special hours for stat holidays.
  5. 20+ real photos: exterior, interior, operatories, team, equipment, before/after.
  6. Logo and cover photo set.
  7. Services list filled - one entry per procedure you offer.
  8. Products section (yes, even for dental - hygiene products, whitening kits).
  9. Attributes set: wheelchair accessible, free parking, accepts new patients, online appointments.
  10. Q&A section seeded with the 10 questions patients actually ask, with your answers.
  11. Posts published weekly (offers, news, photos, events).
  12. Booking button enabled and linked to live online scheduling.
  13. Messaging enabled with auto-reply.
  14. Review responses within 48 hours, every review, positive and negative.

Review velocity (the #1 Local Pack signal)

  1. Automated post-visit review request via SMS within 30 minutes of checkout.
  2. Sentiment routing: 4-5 stars to Google, 1-3 stars to a private form.
  3. Track new reviews per month - growth, not total, is what ranks.
  4. Owner responds publicly to every Google review (templated is fine, personal is better).
  5. Negative reviews: respond, take offline, resolve, ask reviewer to update.
  6. Never gate (only ask happy patients) or incentivize - both violate Google's policy.

On-site technical foundation

  1. Mobile page load under 2 seconds (test on slow 3G, not your office WiFi).
  2. HTTPS everywhere, HTTP redirects to HTTPS, www vs non-www consistent.
  3. Single H1 per page, descriptive title under 60 chars, meta description under 160 chars.
  4. Canonical tags on every page.
  5. XML sitemap submitted to Google Search Console.
  6. robots.txt allows Googlebot and major AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot).
  7. Structured data: Dentist or DentalBusiness schema on home and contact pages.
  8. FAQPage schema on every page that has Q&A content.
  9. BreadcrumbList schema on every interior page.
  10. LocalBusiness schema with full NAP, opening hours, accepted payment methods, area served.

Procedure + city pages (organic compounding)

  1. One indexable page per procedure: "Dental Implants Toronto", "Invisalign Vaughan".
  2. Real content - 1,200+ words, real photos, real before/after, real pricing range.
  3. Internal links from home and services index.
  4. Schema: MedicalProcedure or Service.
  5. Embedded online booking widget on every procedure page.
  6. Patient testimonials specific to that procedure.
  7. FAQs specific to that procedure with FAQPage schema.

Citations and backlinks

  1. NAP consistency across 50+ directories (Yelp, Yellow Pages, RateMDs, Facebook, Apple Maps, Bing Places).
  2. Listed in dental-specific directories (Canadian Dental Association, RAMQ, provincial colleges where applicable).
  3. Local backlinks: chamber of commerce, BIA, local sponsorships, local news features.
  4. Vendor backlinks: dental supply companies often link customer practices on case studies.

AI search visibility (the new frontier)

  1. Publish a /llms.txt at site root listing your key pages with descriptions.
  2. Allow GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended in robots.txt.
  3. Write answer-shaped content: question-led headings, definitive numerical answers, plain English.
  4. Cite your sources (CDA guidelines, AAP, ADA) - LLMs prefer to cite sites that themselves cite primary sources.
  5. Monitor brand mentions in ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude. Track change over time.
  6. Build out an FAQ page covering the 30 most-asked questions about your practice and procedures.

What we'd ship in week 1

  1. GBP audit + cleanup (categories, services, photos, attributes).
  2. Wire automated review requests via SMS triggered by PMS checkout.
  3. Add Dentist + FAQPage schema to home page.
  4. Publish llms.txt and update robots.txt to allow AI crawlers.
  5. Submit sitemap to Search Console.

That's roughly 40% of the impact, in a week. The rest compounds over 6-12 months.
